New therapeutic options in the early stages of development include the use of trophic factors, gene therapy and embryonic and pluripotent stem cell grafts. There is also some evidence of the beneficial effect of rehabilitation; speech therapy may improve speech function and mobility problems may improve with regular physical exercise.
